The Story Behind This Remarkable
New Book
Authors
connect in many conventional ways; by reading each other's work, through conventions,
appearances etc. But authors Bogart and Bronson met in a very different
fashion. In the early Autumn of 2003, word went out across the New England airwaves
that a young boy had gone missing in the Central New Hampshire woods, not far
from where the natural stone image of the Old Man on The Mountain stood for so
many thousands of years. Over 1,000 men and women responded and combed the cold,
damp mountain woodlands, to the point of exhaustion, vowing to press on until
the boy was found. Five days later, he was found. He was not alive. And at once,
some of the toughest men and women you ever came across, melted, helpless, into
a sea of collective tears. Bogart and Bronson were a part of that search, and
became friends as they searched shoulder to shoulder through the precipitous hillsides.
All we do in this world, we do for our children. So when one
child cries out, all good parents everywhere feel the pain. And when one is taken,
it takes a piece of all of us, as did this bright young man. Patric (with a‘c’)
McCarthy, we dedicate this book to you, and all children everywhere crying out
to find their way home.
In the Spring of 2003, the Old Man on the Mountain crumbled
into a rubble of shale, after standing as a seemingly eternal monument since the
dawn of man. But the only thing that is truly eternal is the value of the love
of our children.
